On May 22, 2011 one of the most destructive tornadoes in United States history ripped through the heart of the city of Joplin, Missouri. Several residents share their experiences of that fateful day and the days to follow. Through a surge of volunteers and a determined spirit, Joplin has rebuilt in an unprecedented way to now exhibit a higher population and more businesses than before the storm.

“The Butterfly People” is an investigation into the phenomenon that took place in the Joplin Tornado of 2011, where many children reported sightings of what they described as butterflies, which helped them in some way. The documentary involves third-person and first-person accounts, as well as some angel expert opinions. What does all of this mean? That is for you to decide!
This FishXpresions Film in association with Great Wonders Productions features Country Music Recording Artist, Tracy Lawrence, and his song, “Butterfly”, which was inspired by these events and Dueling Hearts with their song, “Butterflies & Angels”, written ten years before the tornado.
